OUR WORK TOGETHER

My philosophy centres around  emotion and expression. In our work together I may use play and creative expression, emotionally focused therapy, attachment, and family systems approaches.

Counselling can help people facing many different issues including stress, trauma, anxiety, substance use, mental health concerns including anxiety and depression, relationships, family life, life transitions, divorce, parenting, and finding emotional well-being.

CHILDREN AND ADOLESCENTS

Childhood and adolescence is a time of great change, great growth, and often great challenges. My work with children and adolescents focuses on the inner world of children and all that includes: behaviours, relationships, experiences, and feelings. We work together on their journey, embracing who they are as individuals.

PARENTS AND FAMILIES

One of my passions is to help whole families succeed together and as individuals. I work with parents (including step-parents and foster parents) from a strengths-based approach that acknowledges and faces the types of challenges that we each have as individuals within a family, in order to help the whole family thrive.

INDIVIDUALS

I work with individuals of all ages as they face life's challenges - including those that arise from trauma, depression, anxiety, and grief. I also help with topics relating to aging, including mid-life, supporting aging parents, and the stresses faced by care-givers.

HOW I WORK

20180526_072026.jpg

ATTACHMENT FOCUSED

The interpersonal attachments that form in our earliest years influence how we relate to and interact with others and the world. I work from an attachment focus, which can help you understand these influences and discover the roots of your perspective and actions. Counselling work within attachment theory as been shown to be empowering in helping people understand where they've come from in order to help them get to where they want to go.

PLAY AND CREATIVE EXPRESSION

Play and creativity are the ways in which we communicate even before we have the use of words and language. I use play and creative expression with children as young as 3 through to adolescent years (and even with adults!) as a way of understanding and building on our most innate capacities, abilities, and fundamental communication methods. Play and creative expression can help our inner spark grow in ways that positively affect our day-to-day lives.

RELATIONSHIPS AND FAMILY SYSTEMS

Our life experiences within our families, beginning at birth, affect us throughout our lives and shape how we are as children, parents, grandparents, and partners. I work to help unpack our lives' stories in ways that creates understanding and insight, and compassion for ourselves. Our work can help increase the quality of our relationships both within and outside the family.
